Media Aggregation for IVI Systems - Takeshi Kanemoto, VNC Automotive Limited
Feedback form is now closed.
Consuming media inside the car is becoming ever more commonplace, and the shift towards autonomous driving is set to accelerate this trend, not only for the passengers but also for the driver. While content services are somewhat siloed in the present day, consumers of the future will expect to start playback from any service (or screen) within the car, on any device in the vehicle. Aggregated and shared content libraries will become the norm; they will be able to see and play music from all registered devices in the car over Wi-Fi rather than the point-to-point link provided by current standards (e.g. Bluetooth, Android Auto, CarPlay, MirroLink, SmartDeviceLink, CarLife, etc..) In this talk, Takeshi Kanemoto outlines the challenges -- legal, regional and technical -- manufacturers face when dealing with content provision, and how the AGL community has the opportunity to create a standard for discovery, aggregation and control of media/screen content from multiple sources on different devices, with lessons learnt from past protocols such as DLNA.
