"Upstream First" is Our Principle - Introduction of CIP Kernel Team Activities - Masashi Kudo, Cybertrust Japan Co., Ltd. & SZ Lin (林上智), Moxa Inc.
Feedback form is now closed.
CIP (Civil Infrastructure Platform) project aims to support industrial-grade systems by fulfilling the required level of reliability, sustainability, and security during their life cycles which are long, typically more than 10 years. CIP kernel team is working to provide and maintain Linux kernel to sustain CIP activities overall. In order to sustain activities for such a long period, the team adopts "Upstream First" as development principle. The “Upstream First” principle allows patch commits only if those patches are already in the upstream. Having both pros and cons, this principle is a desired approach to continue releases and maintenance. The kernel team works with LTS and other open source projects to share its findings and contribute outputs by following this principle. Open source tools like "cip-kernel-sec" were introduced to accelerate "Upstream First" activities. This presentation introduces activities of CIP kernel team how the "Upstream First" development is conducted. IEC62443 related activities are also introduced.
