Introducing OpenHPC Cross Platform Provisioning Assembly for Warewulf - Naohiro Tamura, Fujitsu Limited

OpenHPC provides a variety of common, pre-built ingredients required to deploy and manage an HPC Linux cluster including provisioning tools, resource management, I/O clients, runtimes, development tools, containers, and a variety of scientific libraries. OpenHPC currently supports two architectures, x86_64 and AArch64. And each architecture requires to deploy a set of SMS(system management server) and CNs(compute nodes) respectively. AArch64 server is capable for HPC such that AArch64 super computer won TOP500 June 2020, but it is still expensive and not yet prevalent. This talk discusses how to facilitate AArch64 compute node trial with existing x86_64 host, for example Raspberry Pi 3/4 with a x86_64 notebook as minimum. Attendees will get familiar with: - The typical OpenHPC deployment. - The basic concepts of Container and Linux binfmt_misc capability - A solution to allow an x86_64 SMS to create aarch64 image using container, and to serve both x86_64 and AArch64 CNs [1].
