Lessons Learned to Adopt Visual Programming Tool, Node-RED to IoT Use Cases - Kazuhito Yokoi, Hitachi, Ltd.
Feedback form is now closed.
IoT has huge potentials to establish lucrative business models that utilize IT and operational technologies in industrial fields. In the application development using IoT technologies, the method of rapid development is crucial to deliver innovative ideas for customers. As the ideal development tool to fill our requirements, Hitachi has adopted Node-RED, a visual programming tool for the IoT. On the Node-RED editor, developers just connect components in the processing order using mouse operations to create applications for edge devices and clouds quickly. For adoptions in large systems, we encountered concerns about stable operations and performance. To solve the problems, we evaluated the performance of Node-RED in the major use cases, data management systems to collect values from smart meters, and web systems to call multiple REST APIs. Because there is no documentation about the performance tuning of Node-RED in the community, we found that the evaluations are valuable. To grow Node-RED adoptions for IoT systems, we will talk about our know-how related to systems design using Node-RED based on our evaluations.
